Dr. Daniel Shema is a Medical Officer at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, where he has been serving since November 2023. He is a dedicated physician with diverse experience spanning clinical medicine, humanitarian healthcare, public health, and emergency medical services. His practice is driven by a strong commitment to patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and continuous professional development.
At King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, Dr. Shema contributes to the delivery of high-quality healthcare services as part of a multidisciplinary team. He has a particular interest in cardiology, including both interventional and non-invasive cardiac care, and is passionate about advancing his expertise in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Shema holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Rwanda. Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in both hospital-based and field healthcare settings, serving diverse patient populations and working in challenging environments that have strengthened his clinical and leadership capabilities. Prior to joining King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, Dr. Shema served as a Medical Officer with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), where he provided urgent and routine medical care to United Nations personnel and civilians. In this role, he participated in medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operations and conducted first aid and trauma response training for security personnel operating in high-risk environments. He also served as Director of Clinical Services at IMIRASIRE Youth Clinic, where he led initiatives focused on health education, sexual and reproductive health, youth-friendly services, and mental health support for survivors of gender-based violence. His work reflected a strong commitment to preventive healthcare and community well-being. Earlier in his career, Dr. Shema worked as a Medical Officer at Remera Rukoma Hospital and Butaro Hospital, where he managed both inpatient and outpatient services, participated in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives, and contributed to oncology care services and hospital accreditation processes. In addition to his clinical experience, Dr. Shema has undertaken professional training in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), hospital operations, and humanitarian health response. His broad expertise, combined with his dedication to compassionate and evidence-based care, enables him to provide holistic healthcare services while contributing meaningfully to the advancement of medical practice at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda.
