The Imaging and Diagnostic Services Department serves as a cornerstone of modern healthcare by offering comprehensive, advanced diagnostic capabilities that support early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment planning. Equipped with state-of-the-art imaging technology and led by a team of experienced radiologists, sonographers, and technicians, the department provides services to both inpatients and outpatients across Rwanda and the greater East African region.

From routine X-rays to high-end interventional procedures, every scan performed is a step toward better patient outcomes.

Infrastructure & Advanced Technology
The department houses a robust range of advanced imaging equipment, including:

1. 128-Slice CT Scanner – The only one of its kind in Rwanda, enabling high-resolution imaging for:
– CT Angiography
– Virtual Colonoscopy
– Bone Densitometry
– Dynamic Imaging (Head, Chest, Abdomen)
– CT Fluoroscopy-guided interventions

2. Digital 1.5 Tesla MRI Scanner – Fast, quiet, and high-performing MRI system for brain, spine, joints, and soft tissue studies. Serves regional referrals from Burundi, South Sudan, Tanzania, and the DRC.

3. Dental Cone Beam CT (CBCT) – Offers detailed 3D imaging for maxillofacial and dental evaluations, including implant planning and TMJ assessments.

4. Cathlab  – Supports advanced cardiac and vascular imaging. Used for: Coronary and peripheral angiography and Interventional radiology procedures

Comprehensive Imaging Services
✔ Radiography (X-Ray): Quick and reliable imaging for bones, lungs, and other structures. Essential for diagnosing fractures, infections, and organ abnormalities.
✔ CT & MRI Imaging: High-definition cross-sectional imaging for diagnosing tumors, internal injuries, neurological conditions, vascular diseases, and more.

Advanced Ultrasound Services
Performed by expert radiologists and sonographers, our ultrasound services provide real-time, non-invasive imaging with pinpoint accuracy:
• Abdominal & Pelvic Ultrasound – Evaluates internal organs such as liver, kidneys, uterus, ovaries, and prostate.
• Obstetric Ultrasound – Offers fetal growth monitoring, 3D/4D imaging, and early anomaly detection.
• Doppler Ultrasound – Assesses blood flow and detects DVT, varicose veins, and vascular occlusions.
• Musculoskeletal Ultrasound – Ideal for joint injuries, tendon tears, and soft tissue issues.
• Echocardiography – Assesses heart function, valves, and structural abnormalities. 

Digital Mammography
Early Breast Cancer Detection with Dignity and Precision
Our advanced mammography unit supports both routine and diagnostic breast screening:
– Early detection of lumps and calcifications
– Follow-up imaging for previously detected abnormalities
– Fast, accurate, and low-discomfort imaging

Fluoroscopy
Dynamic Real-Time Imaging for Diagnosis and Treatment
Fluoroscopy offers continuous X-ray imaging to observe organs and guide procedures with precision.
Key Applications:
• Barium Studies – Visualize digestive tract disorders like ulcers, tumors, and motility issues.
• Hysterosalpingography (HSG) – Evaluates fertility by checking fallopian tube patency and uterine shape.
• Arthrography – Diagnoses joint damage in shoulders, knees, and wrists.
• Interventional Fluoroscopy – Guides pain management injections, biopsies, angiographies, and catheter placement

Looking Ahead: Nuclear Medicine
The department is preparing to introduce Nuclear Medicine services, including PETand bone scans—further enhancing diagnostic precision for oncology, cardiology, and metabolic diseases.
