The Hematology Unit at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda is a regional leader in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of disorders affecting the blood and bone marrow. With a team of highly trained hematologists and access to advanced laboratory diagnostics, the department provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for a wide range of both benign and malignant hematologic conditions.
Recognizing the complexity of blood disorders, the department operates with a multidisciplinary approach—working in close collaboration with oncology, internal medicine, pathology, radiology, and critical care teams to ensure every patient receives seamless and holistic treatment.

Expert care is available for both common and rare hematologic disorders, including:
1. Anemia of all types – Iron deficiency, Vitamin B12 deficiency, hemolytic anemia, and more
2. Bleeding and clotting disorders
– Hemophilia
– Thrombocytopenia (low platelet count)
– Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)
– Pulmonary Embolism
3. Hematologic malignancies (blood cancers)

- Complete Blood Count (CBC) and advanced hematological profiling
- Bone Marrow Aspirate and Trephine Biopsy – for detailed assessment of marrow-related conditions
- Coagulation Profile Testing – including clotting factor analysis
- Iron Studies and Vitamin Level Testing – for nutritional deficiencies and iron metabolism issues
- Chemotherapy and supportive care for blood cancers, in collaboration with the Oncology Unit
- Anticoagulation therapy management – for patients with clotting disorders or on long-term blood thinners
- Transfusion Services – including red cell, platelet, and plasma transfusions when clinically indicated

Each patient is assessed through a personalized lens, with treatment plans developed according to the severity, underlying cause, and lifestyle impact of the condition. The department works closely with the Pathology Unit to ensure accurate diagnosis and with other medical specialties for integrated care.
