Dr. Balkachew Nigatu

About Me:

Dr. Balkachew Nigatu is a highly experienced Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda, with a subspecialty in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM). His clinical focus lies in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of high-risk pregnancies, ensuring the health and safety of both expectant mothers and their unborn babies.

With over a decade of academic and clinical experience, Dr. Balkachew has served as a lecturer at Mekelle University and St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College in Ethiopia, where he is currently an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. His passion for advancing maternal care has led him to play a key leadership role as the Director of the MFM Fellowship Program at the University of Rwanda since 2021.

Education:
• Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship – St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (2015–2017)
• Specialty in Obstetrics & Gynecology – Addis Ababa University (2005–2009)

Through his commitment to maternal and fetal health, academic mentorship, and specialized training, Dr. Balkachew continues to contribute significantly to the development of high-quality perinatal care in Rwanda and the region.
