Profile

Dr. Achille Manirakiza is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Head of the Oncology Unit at King Faisal Hospital, Kigali. He is actively involved in both clinical care and research, with a strong focus on improving cancer outcomes in low-resource settings. His areas of expertise span clinical and radiation oncology, with special emphasis on the treatment of central nervous system, head and neck, breast, gastrointestinal, genito-urinary, skin, and sarcoma malignancies.

His research interests include gynecological malignancies and cancer genetics, particularly prostate cancer genetics and treatment outcomes in Rwanda. He is currently leading multiple funded studies on castrate-resistant prostate cancer and the genetic basis of prostate cancer in the Rwandan population.

Dr. Manirakiza is a recipient of numerous prestigious grants and fellowships, including the UICC Technical Fellowship, Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s GLOBE Program (2016), the African Cancer Leadership Institute (2017), and the Massachusetts General Hospital POETIC grant (2018).

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) – National University of Rwanda (2008–2013)
