Dr. Jean Marie Vianney Dushimiyimana

About Me:

Dr. Jean Marie Vianney Dushimiyimana is a Senior Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, where he provides comprehensive specialist care for patients with a wide range of otolaryngological conditions. He also serves as the Head of the ENT Unit, Chairperson of the Research and Ethics Committee, and Head of Ambulatory Care Services, reflecting his extensive expertise in clinical practice, healthcare leadership, research governance, and medical education.

Dr. Dushimiyimana earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Rwanda in 2006 before pursuing a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), which he completed in 2014. Over a distinguished career spanning more than 18 years, he has gained extensive experience across district, referral, and tertiary healthcare institutions in Rwanda, making significant contributions to the advancement of specialized ENT services in the country.

Prior to joining King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, Dr. Dushimiyimana served as a Consultant ENT Surgeon and Head of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at Butare University Teaching Hospital (CHUB). He also held an academic appointment as a Lecturer in the School of Medicine and Pharmacy at the University of Rwanda, where he played a pivotal role in training undergraduate medical students and mentoring postgraduate residents in Otolaryngology. His commitment to education continues to shape the development of future healthcare professionals through clinical teaching, mentorship, and academic supervision.

Dr. Dushimiyimana specializes in the diagnosis and surgical management of diseases affecting the ear, nose, throat, head, and neck. His areas of clinical interest include pediatric otolaryngology, head and neck disorders, airway diseases, hearing disorders, sinonasal conditions, and the comprehensive management of complex ENT conditions. He is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care while promoting multidisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Dushimiyimana is actively involved in healthcare leadership, institutional governance, and quality improvement initiatives. As Chairperson of the Research and Ethics Committee, he provides oversight for ethical clinical research and promotes a culture of scientific integrity and evidence-based practice. He also leads initiatives aimed at strengthening ambulatory care services, improving patient experience, and enhancing the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery within the institution. An advocate for continuous professional development and clinical research, Dr. Dushimiyimana remains committed to advancing the field of otolaryngology through innovation, scholarly engagement, and collaborative practice. His professional interests include clinical research, healthcare quality improvement, medical education, ethical research governance, and the development of specialized surgical services that respond to the evolving healthcare needs of the population.
