Dr. Sandrine GBIA

About Me:

Dr. Sandrine Gbia is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist specializing in Maternal–Fetal Medicine (MFM). She serves as a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, where she provides highly specialized clinical care while actively contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, clinical mentorship, and the training of future obstetricians and gynecologists.

Dr. Gbia obtained her medical degree and completed her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in France, where she developed a strong foundation in evidence-based women's healthcare. She subsequently pursued advanced subspecialty training in Maternal–Fetal Medicine, acquiring extensive expertise in the management of complex pregnancies and conditions affecting both mother and fetus.

Following the completion of her specialist training, Dr. Gbia was appointed to an academic clinical position in France, where she successfully combined independent clinical practice with teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and specialist trainees. During this period, she worked in leading tertiary referral centers for Maternal–Fetal Medicine, managing high-risk pregnancies and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care for women with complex maternal and fetal conditions.

To further broaden her expertise, Dr. Gbia completed postgraduate training in Assisted Reproductive Medicine and Infertility, strengthening her skills in the diagnosis and management of infertility, reproductive endocrinology. Her diverse training enables her to provide comprehensive care across the full spectrum of women's reproductive health, from preconception counseling and fertility management to pregnancy, childbirth, and gynecologic care.

Her clinical expertise includes Maternal–Fetal Medicine, high-risk obstetrics, prenatal diagnosis, fetal surveillance, obstetric ultrasound, gynecology, reproductive medicine, infertility, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. She has a particular interest in caring for women with medically complicated pregnancies, multiple gestations, fetal growth disorders, fetal conditions, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, diabetes in pregnancy, and other conditions requiring specialized multidisciplinary management.

Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Gbia is deeply committed to medical education, research, and continuous professional development. She actively mentors medical students, residents, and Maternal Fetal Medicine fellows, fostering excellence in clinical practice and promoting evidence-based patient care. She also contributes to academic discussions, quality improvement initiatives, and the advancement of women's health services through collaborative learning and professional development.

Dr. Gbia is passionate about delivering compassionate, patient-centered care while advancing excellence in maternal and reproductive healthcare. Through her dedication to clinical excellence, education, and mentorship, she continues to play an important role in strengthening specialized obstetric and gynecologic services and improving maternal and newborn health outcomes in Rwanda.
