KFHR Foundation

The King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation serves as the philanthropic and developmental arm of King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, established to advance research, education, healthcare delivery, and access to specialized medical care in Rwanda and the region. Following the approval of its strategic plan in October 2020, the Foundation has prioritized initiatives that support national health priorities and capacity building across the healthcare system.

Strategic Focus Areas

The Foundation’s work is structured around four major pillars:

1. Research Advancement

Promoting a research-driven culture is central to the Foundation’s mission. Efforts in this area include:

• Funding medical research projects aligned with national and regional health priorities.
• Supporting capacity building for researchers through training programs, mentorship, and fellowships.
• Facilitating the dissemination of research findings at local and international platforms.
• Establishing strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and grant-making bodies.

2. Education and Workforce Development

A highly trained and responsive health workforce is critical to achieving universal health coverage. The Foundation actively contributes to:

• Supporting the training of specialists and sub-specialists in critical areas of healthcare.
• Promoting Continuing Medical Education (CME) across the health sector.
• Encouraging the adoption of modern learning tools, including simulation-based learning and e-learning platforms.
• Strengthening academic collaboration with local and international training institutions.

3. Healthcare Facility Support and Surgical Outreach

To improve equity in access and service delivery across Rwanda, the Foundation:

• Supports healthcare facilities, particularly in underserved areas, with capacity strengthening and clinical outreach.
• Organizes and funds surgical camps to reduce long waiting times in public and teaching hospitals.
• Facilitates targeted medical outreach programs, especially in specialties such as cardiology, orthopedics, plastic surgery, and pediatric surgery.

4. Philanthropy and Patient Support

As part of its social welfare commitment, the foundation ensures access to financial support to underprivileged patients needing complex medical interventions, such as:

• • Cardiac surgery
  • Ketamine-assisted therapy for severe depression
  • Kidney transplant services
• Raising public awareness on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), congenital conditions, and the importance of early detection and treatment.
• Building partnerships to mobilize resources for lifesaving interventions.
