About Me:
Dr. Providence Akingeneye is a Consultant Pediatric Cardiologist at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda, bringing specialized expertise in the diagnosis and management of congenital and acquired heart diseases in children. With a career dedicated to advancing pediatric cardiac care in Rwanda and across the East African region, Dr. Akingeneye combines advanced clinical training with a deep commitment to improving access to cardiac services for children.
Dr. Akingeneye holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Rwanda (2016) and a Master of Medicine in Pediatrics and Child Health, also from the University of Rwanda (2021). He subsequently completed a three-year Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Rwanda (2022–2025), which included an intensive one-year sub-specialty fellowship at the Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences in Bangalore, India one of the world's leading centers for pediatric cardiac surgery and cardiology. He also attended as a visiting clinical fellow at the Department of Cardiology, Boston Children's Hospital (June–July 2023), a globally recognized center of excellence in pediatric heart care.
Dr. Akingeneye's clinical practice focuses on:
● Diagnosis and management of congenital heart diseases (CHD) in neonates, infants, and children
● Pediatric echocardiography and non-invasive cardiac imaging
● Pre- and post-operative cardiac care for children undergoing heart surgery
● Management of acquired heart conditions in children, including rheumatic heart disease
● Pediatric cardiac arrhythmia assessment and management
Dr. Akingeneye is an active researcher with a focus on congenital heart disease epidemiology and outcomes in Rwanda. His work includes a retrospective analysis of surgical outcomes in children with CHD in Rwanda over 14 years, and research on patterns of congenital heart disease and geographical disparities in access to care among Rwandan children. He has presented at the World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery (2023) and multiple national and international conferences. Dr. Akingeneye remains an active participant in global professional forums, including the Heart Rhythm Society / Pediatric and Adult Congenital Electrophysiology Society (PACES).
