Dr. Ejigu Mekonnen Yayehyirad, widely known as Dr. Yayu, is a highly trained Pediatric Cardiologist at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda, with a unique background rooted in both surgical precision and humanitarian care. Originally from Ethiopia, Dr. Yayu completed his medical degree and residency in General Surgery at Jimma University Hospital, where he also served as a medical educator. His passion for pediatric cardiology led him to become one of Ethiopia’s pioneering specialists in the field. Through the Save a Child’s Heart (SACH) program, Dr. Yayu received extensive pediatric cardiac training, including participation in international cardiac missions and mentorships that shaped his clinical focus. He further advanced his expertise with a Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia (2017–2019)—a transformative experience that solidified his role as a leading voice in pediatric heart care across the region. Today, Dr. Yayu brings compassionate, lifesaving care to children with heart conditions in Rwanda, and remains committed to strengthening pediatric cardiology services across East Africa through education, mentorship, and surgical excellence.

An experienced paediatric specialist licensed in Rwanda, South Africa, and Botswana, with expertise in neurodevelopmental biology and psychosocial child development. Provides counselling and tailored guidance to parents and caregivers, particularly for children with neurodivergent conditions such as Autism and ADHD. Holds certifications in Basic and Advanced Paediatric Life Support, as well as neonatal and paediatric intensive care. Fluent in English with proficiency in French.

Dr. Bukeyeneza Jocelyne is a Consultant Neonatologist at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda, with specialized training in neonatal-perinatal medicine. She is dedicated to providing advanced, evidence-based care for newborns, particularly those born prematurely or with complex medical needs. Dr. Jocelyne completed her medical degree at the National University of Rwanda in 2012 and went on to pursue extensive postgraduate training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada. Over the course of several clinical fellowships from 2020 to 2023, she developed deep expertise in neonatal intensive care, respiratory support, and the management of high-risk newborns. Her compassionate approach, combined with world-class training, makes her a vital part of the neonatal care team at KFH, where she works to ensure the best possible outcomes for the hospital’s youngest and most vulnerable patients.

Dr. Lise Mumporeze is an emergency medicine Doctor at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda. Her areas of focus are emergency medicine and critical care. She is an emergency and critical care physician who trained at University of Rwanda. She also is a pediatric intensivist trained in the fellowship program of Wolfson Medical Center in Israel. She takes care of sick patients especially critically ill children including children with congenital heart disease.

Dr. Jeanne Uwurukundo is a consultant pediatrician at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda. Her areas of focus are general pediatrics and neonatology.

Dr. Tharcisse Ngambe is a senior consultant pediatrician at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda. His areas of expertise are general pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. (MBChB, FCPaed (SA), PG Dip. Paediatrics Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, PG Dip. Development studies (Project Planning and Management). Senior Consultant Paediatrician in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at KFH heads the Directorate of Quality Assurance & Risk Management at KFH, Rwanda, and a senior Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Rwanda.

Dr. NKURANGA Jean Baptiste Nkuranga is the Director of Medical Services at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, and as Specialist in Paediatrics, Perinatal-Neonatal medicine and Global Health Systems, He has extensive Paediatric and Neonatal clinical background, health care system leadership and management experience complemented by a Master of Management of Applied Sciences (MMASc) in Global Health Systems. In the leadership role, he has successfully contributed to a community-based health care system strengthening through the work of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and sustaining of Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI) to ensure healthcare services are accessible and affordable by all. He also has a deep interest in Maternal, Neonatal and Child health and well-being and not just reduction of mortality and morbidity. To achieve this, his focus is to innovatively, comprehensively and exhaustively optimize the application of currently available resources, technological solutions and scientific evidence (link evince to practice within available resources) to improve health outcomes. Thus his passion lies in “translating scientific evidence into actions that truly impact on health and well-being of mothers and their children as well as using the same evidence to build strong health care systems ready to assimilate and support such translation.

Over the last 10 years Dr Edgar has worked with outpatient clinics in Kigali and as lead the Paediatric unit at King Faisal Hospital. He is a dedicated Pediatrician with extensive experience in well and sick care of pediatric patients from newborn to 18+. Personable professional able to relate to wide range of patients parents and staff. Motivational leader with genuine love of children and desire to improve health and wellbeing of every patient. In 2018 he was seconded as the Director of Medical Services at Jeanne Ebori Mother-Child Foundation Hospital Center (CHUMEFJE) a new hospital managed by Sphera Group in Gabon. He was in charge of network development, which included all physician, hospital and ancillary contracting, as well as assessment of hospital and physician performance.
