Dr. Bukara Emmanuel is a consultant orthopedic surgeon at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda. His areas of expertise are sports medicine, particularly in knee surgery and traumatology. He also has a special interest in arthroplasty. Specializing in joint reconstruction and sports orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Bukara is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions. With over 12 years of experience in orthopaedic surgery, he has a proven track record of successful outcomes and patient satisfaction. Dr. Bukara completed his medical degree at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda, and his residency at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He further pursued a fellowship in Sports Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand. He is a member of the Rwanda Orthopaedic Association and actively participates in ongoing training of orthopaedic residents at the University of Rwanda. He is also a member of the East African Arthroscopic Surgeons. Dr. Bukara serves as the current National Chair of AO Alliance, a non-governmental organization that facilitates fracture-management training for doctors in lower-income countries. He is currently the coordinator for Fellowship training in English-Speaking Africa under AO Alliance.

Dr. Baingana Ambrose Rutarama is a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at King Faisal Hospital, Rwanda, with advanced expertise in sports medicine, knee surgery, and shoulder reconstruction. His clinical focus includes treating joint injuries, ligament tears, degenerative conditions, and complex musculoskeletal trauma. Known for his precision and commitment to restoring mobility and performance, Dr. Ambrose takes a patient-centered approach to orthopedic care—whether managing athletic injuries or performing joint reconstruction surgeries. Dr. Ambrose brings a wealth of experience and a deep dedication to advancing orthopedic and sports injury care in Rwanda and the region.  He holds a Master of Medicine (MMed) from the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa) and is a Fellow of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FC Orth). Additionally, he completed an ISAKOS-approved fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Knee Surgery at the Linksfield Orthopaedic and Sports Rehabilitation Unit, affiliated with the Johannesburg Orthopaedic Sports Institute (JOSI). Highly active in elite sports medicine, he served as the Lead Physician for the Basketball Africa League (BAL) for three consecutive years (2022–2024) and supported the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali. In academia, he serves as a lecturer at the University of Rwanda and ASOME, providing daily hands-on training to students and residents. He is a certified peer reviewer for the Medical Science Monitor and the author of a landmark paper on pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures.

 

 

 

 

Dr. KARAKIRE is an orthopedic surgeon at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda. He treats patients across various orthopedic subspecialties. He is one of the few Rwandan orthopedic specialists skilled in treating sports joint injuries (ankle, knee and shoulder), using minimally invasive technology

Dr. Karakire has a keen interest in managing sports foot and ankle conditions and deformity correction. In 2024 he graduated as a fellow of foot and ankle (sports and deformity)corrections from Asyut University Teaching Hospital, Egypt. Other than that, he engaged in various highly skilled cadaver courses abroad led by Prof. Takakura and Prof. van Djik, a leading arthroscopic surgeon in foot and ankle.

Dr. Karakire, a scholar and a teacher, he is a clinical lecturer at the University of Rwanda, and COSECSA. He is an AO faculty member both in Rwanda and in the Region. ‎

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Kwesiga Stephen is a Junior Orthopedics Surgeon at King Faisal hospital. He provides different surgeries ranging from young to adults. He is also interested in musculoskeletal oncology and Geriatric Orthopedics. Dr. Kwesiga is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions. With over 3 years of experience in Orthopaedic surgery, he has a proven track record of successful outcomes and patient satisfaction. Dr. Kwesiga Stephen completed his medical degree at the University of Rwanda. He graduated from the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA). He is a member of the Rwanda Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and actively participates in ongoing training to stay updated with the latest advancements in Orthopaedic care.
