Training

Residents receive a rich clinical experience at King Faisal Hospital, where an estimate of 7,500 inpatients are admitted annually. The residency program currently has a total of 42 residents.

Residents are given a level of supervision appropriate to their ability, along with a caseload that provides a broad clinical experience. This quickly builds technical expertise, good judgment, leadership, decision-making skills, allowing residents to become confident in dealing with the most challenging cases.

The program provides a combined surgical and medical experience with approximately four months of surgery, two months of ICU, Pedeatrics, Obstetrics and Gyneacology and six months of medical training. This program offers a unique opportunity for interested graduates to gain an excellent foundation for their careers.

The residents rotate through the following areas:

  • Urology
  • Thoracic surgery
  • General surgery
  • Orthopeadic surgery
  • Neuro surgery
  • ENT
  • Internal Medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • Obstetrics and Gyneacology

 

Senior residents get first-call experience to help prepare them for independent practice.  An attending is always on call with them and his/her role is to support and teach the residents, this experience has proved to be invaluable for our graduates.

 

King Faisal Hospital clinical team carries out continuous medical education programs that are designed to share knowledge and new medical techniques. These include;

  • Hospital Tumor board is a multi disciplinary meeting that convenes medical staff every Friday morning to discuss complex Cancer cases in the hospital. Each discipline has a schedule of when to present cases of interest and patient management decisions are made accordingly.
  • Multi disciplinary ICU grand ward round is conducted every Thursday morning where all cases in the unit are discussed and patient management is reviewed as per the case.
  • Departmental continuous medical education which encourages a knowledge sharing culture amongst medical personnel. The hospital management set aside Thursday afternoon as protected time for weekly departmental Continuous medical education, where medical teams present and discuss cases in their respective disciplines.
